Instead of tedious processing of topics, you scroll. Just like on TikTok or Instagram, but each video is a specific, short lesson. Mathematics? Biology? Polish? Everything is presented in an accessible way, in a form you like and understand.

Experienced teachers and modern technologies stand behind Hi School. Thanks to this, you learn faster and more effectively – and there is more time for your teasers.

And when a difficult topic arises, Professor Z – your personal AI-mentor – comes to the rescue. He will answer every question and explain everything, step by step.

Just take out your phone, open the app and start scrolling. Learning has never been so intuitive and scrolling so useful.

Who is the client?

Party Project is a Polish marketing agency with many years of experience in creating innovative campaigns and products. The company, in cooperation with a team of educational experts, created the Hi School application to respond to the needs of modern students.

The company was looking for a solution that:

• Delivers knowledge in a format similar to social media
• Uses the potential of AI to provide individual support to students
• Ensures smooth playback of short educational videos
• Is as intuitive to use as popular applications
• Makes learning enjoyable, not forced

Challenges

Infinite scroll of knowledge

We knew from the beginning that liquidity was the key. The user cannot wait. It cannot see caching. He can’t get frustrated.

But creating such a system is a big challenge. Short video lessons have large files – especially if they are of good quality. There is also the issue of connection. We knew that many users would use the application on the go – on LTE or on weaker Wi-Fi. We couldn’t risk something getting stuck.

Any delay in loading is a potentially missed lesson. And each missed lesson means less commitment.

So we had to take care of precise caching and intelligent content management. The application loaded the videos “in advance” before the user even reached them. At the same time, we couldn’t overload it – because the database was growing and we didn’t want to consume gigabytes of transfer.

So a whole set of optimisations works in the background: compression, dynamic quality scaling, local caching, as well as a clever database architecture. This makes scrolling educational content light, intuitive and – most importantly – fast. Even when the user only has two range bars.

Professor Z, your personal AI learning assistant

We didn’t want a chatbot with dry definitions. Professor Z was supposed to teach like a real teacher – explain clearly, respond to questions and speak the students’ language.

The challenge was to combine AI with the Polish core curriculum and adjust the level of expression to the child’s age – a first-grader responds differently to a seventh-grader.

We also had to take care of the context – Professor Z understands what has already been discussed, what topics are connected and how not to lose the student in the thicket of concepts. And all this at the pace of a conversation.

App for everyone (from 1st to 8th grade)

When designing Hi School, we faced a seemingly simple question: how to create one application for a seven-year-old and a thirteen-year-old? In practice, it’s like building two completely different worlds in one place.

We needed to understand how children of different ages think, learn and use technology. What is attractive and understandable to some may be boring or incomprehensible to others.

We solved this by creating an application that is universal in style and content. Not too complicated for younger people and not too boring or childish for older ones.

Too much video, too little space

Recording and optimising hundreds of video lessons so that they work efficiently even on older phones or with weaker internet was quite a technical challenge.

We had to find a happy medium between image quality and application performance.

• Frontend: React Native – because we wanted it to work quickly on both iPhone and Android
• Video: Own library for optimising streaming and content caching
• AI: Advanced language model trained on educational materials, textbooks and curricula
• Backend: Node.js with microservices architecture for better scalability
